Wow... what a day for the nation of Egypt and Egyptians everywhere (including myself)! It's the first time in, let's see here.... around 7000 years, where the Egyptian people can choose their ruler!!!
Exciting to see the poll results, yeah? Hmmm... not really, guess who's winning. After counting about 60% of the votes, Mubarak (current president) seems to be winning by a really really good margin (he's got more than 70% of the votes!)
I started to think, could the elections be manipulated or did the Egyptians actually chose Mubarak for a FIFTH SIX-YEAR term. I think Egyptians looove Pharaohs (monarchies in general). There is something inside every Egyptian that says .. "you should have one ruler that you love (or not) for the rest of your life, and maybe your children's too!!" Or, is it because we(Egyptians) have never ever before experienced "democracy" as we know it today? The whole concept is new to us that when it comes to choosing our president, we go with our famous proverb: "What you know is better than what you don't know"! I disagree with that, but what can I do?! This proverb is used in our everyday language, and it's a part of all Egyptians' lives.
The miserable thing now is that Egyptians will think that Mubarak won the elections, because he's such a GREAT leader, because of all of the GREAT accomplishments that Egypt was blessed with during his presidency, and and and..... all the other B.S. they say about him in Government-owned Egyptian TV stations.
So here we go Egypt (and Egyptians), another SIX YEARS of "accomplishments" and "prosperity" for all you living there!
I'm not saying that the guy is bad, but COME ON.... it's EGYPT! WE COULD BE DOING MUCH BETTER BY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
